Honorary Ambassador of Szczecin
The idea to recognise individuals who – through their acts and achievements, have helped promote Szczecin, was born in 2000. Ever since, the honorary title "Ambassador of Szczecin" has been awarded to artists, sportspeople, scientists, writers, and many others. It was also awarded to the Teatr Kana Association in recognition of the work its members have been doing for so many years, and as a tribute to Zygmunt Duczyński, its founder.
Rules
Until 2009, the rule was to award the title for extraordinary achievements in the previous year, and the awards were handed out in April or May, during a special session of the City Council.
Since the tenth edition, the title is also awarded for achievements in the current year. In addition, City residents now play a bigger role and may not only nominate candidates for the title, but also take part in the decision-making, as three randomly selected residents of Szczecin become members of the Chapter that selects the winners. The title-awarding ceremony takes place during a Special Session of the City Council during Szczecin's Pioneer Day.
