Prototyping
This term, which may be hard to pronounce for Polish people, in fact refers to a very important process. It involves testing changes in the urban space, e.g. on a square or part of a street. Quite importantly, prototyping is carried out together with people who use the space. The tests may involve introducing new elements to a given space, e.g. greenery, street furniture, an additional area for cafés, but also events and new traffic arrangements.
Changes are introduced gradually, so as to be able to adjust them when needed. The best possible variant is selected on the basis of residents’ opinions in order to incorporate the interests of various social groups.
In Szczecin the first prototyping was carried out on Orła Białego Square.
